The “Choir Ensemble of the Goethe-Institut Hamburg” is a chamber choir founded in 2006 with Kazuo Kanemaki as its conductor. Members include choirmasters, music teachers and acoomplished singers, in part professionals. At the moment the Choir Ensemble consists of about 13 singers of all genders who usually meet about three times a month to rehearse music on an ambitious level.
At present the choir’s repertoire consists of
– European Madrigals from the Renaissance
– songs from German Romanticism
– international songs in many languages
– and music of the 20th and 21st century.
The Choir Ensemble performs at events of the Goethe-Institut as well as at concerts with other choirs and soloists. In autumn of 2019 the Choir Ensemble was invited to an international Coir Festival in Jinan, China and on that occasion also held concerts in Shanghai and Hangzhou, where it deepend its friendship with the Shanghai University Alumni Choir.
In July of 2022, after a long Corona-hiatus, the choir performed The Armed Man – A Mass for Peace by Sir Karl Jenkins in cooperation with the Johannes-Brahms-Chor Hamburg and the Kanemaki Chor Hamburg.
